Founded in Kilkenny in 1991, Barnstorm Theatre Company creates and presents high-standard, professional theatre for children and young people. It is also a resource organisation, using theatre & drama as a participative, personal development process for youth and local community groups, through its Youth Theatre, Adult Theatre Club and a community, schools and youth Outreach programme.
The Barn is Barnstorm's own 80-seater black box venue. It is the home venue for our professional theatre for children aged 4-7; for the Adult Theatre Clubs and the Youth Theatre. The Barn features annually as a Kilkenny Arts Festival venue. Barnstorm's plays for children aged 8+ are performed in the nearby Watergate Theatre.
Barnstorm is located on Church Lane (the lane that runs around the perimeter wall of St Canice's Cathedral). Parking is in the Dean Street car park at the junction with Coach Road. It is a 5 to 6 minute walk up to Barnstorm which is located on the 3rd corner of Church Lane, (we are behind the Good Shepherd Centre building). Pedestrians can access Church Lane via St Canice's Steps.
Barnstorm Theatre Company celebrates its 25th year with a season of plays for children and their families.
A key event of Ireland 2016 Centenary Programme, through generous support from Kilkenny County Council, The Messenger is Barnstorm’s powerful new play that looks at the 1916 Rising through the eyes of a ten-year old child.
Christy 'Bullet' Brady is a boy with a mission. He wants to be the fastest runner in the street. When the Easter Rising kicks off, revolution is the last thing on Christy's mind. He's just carrying a message for his Ma. It turns out to be just the first of many messages he carries that week...-
Known for their dynamic and visual theatrical style, Barnstorm's plays appeal to children and adults alike, with compelling characters and artful storytelling. This is guaranteed to be a stirring, edge-of-the-seat family show and a rollicking good story to boot!
Catch this superb piece of family theatre before Barnstorm goes on tour with The Bockety World of Henry and Bucket (North America - Spring 2017) and the delightful Monday's Child (UK Tour - Easter 2017).
