Castlecomer Discovery Park adventures includes it famous walk through the treetops, with views of the River Deane below. For the more adventurous, we have Ireland’s longest, over water, zip-line (300 meters), or try the Octagon, our high ropes challenge course.
Castlecomer Discovery Park offers an exciting range of activities around the estate including tree top walks, climbing walls, boating, adventure playgrounds, orienteering and most recently Ireland’s longest zip wire and high ropes challenge. At the hub of the site, there is the Irish Mining Museum, a purpose-built cafe, craft village, and spaces for educational activities.
Castlecomer Discovery Park comprises 80 acres of natural woodland and lakes. It opened to the public in 2007 to commemorate the coal-mining heritage following the closure of the local mines in 1969. It aims to develop rural tourism, generate local employment and regenerate the town.

Prepare yourself for a Spooktacular Halloween at Castlecomer Discovery Park
We are very excited about Halloween at the Discovery Park, our woodland is the perfect landscape to hide the most gruesome frights, that’s if you can manage to get down the zip line in the dark! Step back in time and experience an interactive multi-media coal mining display that takes you on a journey through time. Explore 300 years of coal mining history through the use of life-sized reconstructions of prehistoric animals, plants, video clips, information panels, while experiencing prehistoric life in the coal swamps.
