"This is my dream job, I am a long-time lover of the Smithwick's Story"
What do you love about Kilkenny?
"I am a very proud Kilkenny man and love talking about and showing off our beautiful city and county but my big love would have to be Hurling which Kilkenny is famous for both at club and county level."
Martin Hanrahan comes from the proud hurling village of Bennettsbridge and like a lot of Kilkenny 'lads' grew up with a Hurley in one hand and a slitter in the other alongside his two brothers. "Hurling has always been a big part of my life" but Martin admits his talents were best applied supporting the Cats from the side-line”. You may recognise Martin from working in Hospitality in Kilkenny for many years, however a recent turn of events saw Martin make a successful and passionate move to the Smithwick's Brewery where he now introduces visitors from all over the globe to one of Kilkenny's most treasured stories, bringing the brand and much loved family history to life! The Smithwick's Brewery has been named one of Lonely Planet's top 21 things to do and it's easy to see that the people behind the big red door are those who made the success possible.
Thanks to Martin and his team for being proud "Faces of Kilkenny"
