“If I can, I will”
What do you love about Kilkenny?
“The Hole in the Wall tavern built in 1542 steeped in history and well worth a visit”.
We introduce to you Seamus Walsh, a former miner who loves digging into our History and preserving the great story of our mining past. Delving into the past of Seamus’s young profession is one of the most intriguing stories we have yet to encounter. Having left school at the young age of 13 to follow his Father’s footsteps down the mining path, Seamus describes it as “A form of slavery, but there were no complaints from the miners”. Working 700 feet below the ground 3 miles from the mouth of the tunnel in wet and dark confines became somewhat of the norm for the hard working men of the mines. Having left education at such a young age and knowing many teenagers who wish their educational years away, we asked Mr Walsh for some advice to give the younger generation of today.. “Appreciate what you have got, but never be afraid to follow your dreams”. Storytelling and advice is a gift that is definitely worth sharing and we can’t thank Seamus enough for sharing his story with us!
