For the real “Kilkenny Experience” we suggest having a taste of all that the county has to offer with a mix of history, heritage, food, adventure and a splash of ceol agus craic.
Groups will be met at their rental car / bus / train / hotel and taken to Jerpoint Glass Studio. Here they will marvel at the ancient skills of the masters at work during a glass blowing demo before dropping into Goatsbridge Trout Farm where the charismatic owners will bring the group on a tour of the trout farm and treat them to some of their award-winning produce such as Smoked Trout and Trout Caviar. The last stop of the morning is to the stunning 13th century Jerpoint Abbey for a guided tour of the impressive ruins where you will be able to walk in the footsteps of the monks that worshiped there many years ago.
Your group will stay in the countryside for lunch and visit the nearby town of Thomastown, home to the Truffle Fairy for all the chocolate lovers in the group! Stop off for a delicious and filling lunch at Café Sol or choose from a selection of fantastic cafés and bars in Thomastown.
The group will be met by Charlie from Go With The Flow who will get you all kitted out for a leisurely or more action packed (depends how adventurous you are) trip down the River Barrow into picturesque town of Graignamanagh, as Charlie says, “There’s no better way to arrive into the town”. This is a magical experience as you meander down the river to the sound of the birds and various wild life in the trees around you. Charlie will keep you all well entertained with stories and folklore from the area.
Return to the hotel, grab a shower, have a rest and prepare for dinner.
Tonight we have plans for your group to continue the activities and head out to the Edward Hayden or Ryeland House Cookery Schools for an evening of preparing your own food under the tutelage of the resident chefs and masters of all things food. Your group will prepare food before sitting down to a fun and informal meal where they can enjoy the fruits of their labour.
Groups will enjoy a guided tour of the Medieval Mile with one of Kilkenny’s many local storytellers and experts on the history and heritage of Kilkenny.
Today’s lunch will be provided by the award winning Rive Gauche at the Left Bank, winner of best Gastro Pub in the 2016 All Ireland Restaurant Awards.
Why not give your group some free time to explore the shopping scene in Kilkenny. Visit MacDonagh Junction Shopping Centre, Market Cross Shopping Centre and many the many boutiques such as Folkster and The Wardrobe Kilkenny.
Alternatively, groups can split up and walk in the footsteps of celebrities and sporting heroes with a guided tour of Nowlan Park or why not visit the championship golf course at Mount Juliet Estate for a round on the Jack Nichlaus designer course.
Tonight is a real treat as we visit the Michelin Star and award winning Lady Helen Restaurant at Mount Juliet Estate. One of the most talked about dining experience in the South East of Ireland. Alternatively, if getting to the countryside is not easily accessible, we recommend the city centre based Michelin Star La Campagne for some amazing French inspired food and exceptional service.
Now it’s time to challenge your group to something a little more energetic and test your team building skills. You’re travelling buddies will be put through their paces in a range of team exercises at the Team Dynamics centre. Team Dynamics are experts in identifying the individual roles each member plays and give some valuable insights for use going forward.
After working up a thirst from a physical morning of team bonding, why not choose from some of Kilkenny’s newest home brews and their brewery tours. Choose from a selection of breweries including Sullivan’s Brewing Company, Costellos Brewery Tour or choose a day in the country at Highbank Orchards & Distillery.
Both craft beer tours delve into the history of brewing in Kilkenny and even let you stir the mash and smell the hops of their special blends. Discover your favourite blends with some tasters and even vanish your hunger with a tasty Woodfire Pizza at Sullivan’s Brewing Company.
Highbank Orchards & Distillery is a truly unique destination to visit in Kilkenny. Owners Rod and Julie brew their own cider, gin, brandy and vodka. Taste the fruits of their labour, get a tour of the farm and hear the fascinating stories of the history of the land.
