The Orangerie at Butler House
Kilkenny’s historic Butler House has launched a new outdoor dining space. The Orangerie is an exciting new addition to ‘al fresco’ dining in the county. Located in the walled garden of the House, ‘The Orangerie’ offers magnificent vistas in a tranquil botanical setting in the centre of the city.
The Orangerie derives its name from the infamous fruit, which were grown in stately Irish Georgian houses for their flavour and decorative appearance. Leading heritage designer Orla Kelly worked on the development at Butler House, where new pergolas have been placed on the lawn to resemble the Orangerie style buildings that would have housed these exotic plants.
Open from 10am to 5pm daily, The Orangerie will serve a selection of tea, coffee and sweet and savoury treats to takeaway and afternoon tea is served between 1pm to 3pm. Pre booking for afternoon tea is essential.
