Cushendale Woollen Mills

Experience one of Ireland’s last working woollen mills at Cushendale Woollen Mills, a sixgeneration family-run business in the Barrow Valley. With craft traditions maintained on the same site since 1204, Cushendale offers visitors a rare chance to see Irish textile making brought to life through sound, texture, colour and process. This is a working mill so mill tours are by appointment only and must be pre booked.

During the Mill Tour, you will follow the journey from raw fleece to beautifully finished fabric, learning how wool is carded, spun, dyed and woven under one roof. The experience gives an honest behindthe-scenes view of a working mill, including the chance to see the 1890 spinning mule and hear the stories behind Cushendale’s special heritage and master craftsmanship.

The tour also explores Cushendale’s commitment to natural fibres, traceable sourcing, water stewardship and zero-waste thinking. Visitors can discover how centuries-old skills and sustainable practices come together to create textiles designed to be cherished and passed down.

After the tour, there is time to browse Cushendale yarns and textiles, along with a range of Irishmade artisan craft products.
