National Heritage Week 14 - 22 August 2021

National Heritage Week, an initiative by the Heritage Council, celebrates all things heritage. It brings together communities, families, organisations, cultural institutions, academics and enthusiasts, to build awareness about the value of heritage and support its conservation. National Heritage Week is co-ordinated nationally by the Heritage Council, and is supported and co-ordinated locally by the Heritage Office of Kilkenny County Council.

National Heritage Week 2021 is all about getting as many people involved in heritage as possible. This year, the Heritage Council is encouraging project organisers to connect with a group or individuals in their community who may not feel included in local heritage. Organisers can also take this opportunity to explore an aspect of local heritage that is seldom considered or celebrated.

There’s plenty to do for everyone during heritage week – here’s just 10 suggestions.

1. Climb a tower
2. Book a bee workshop
3. Visit a palace
4. Attend a play
5. Take a garden tour
6. Walk in wild woods
7. Get up close with birds of prey
8. Research your ancestors
9. Explore “The Mental”
10. Listen to a lunchtime concert
