Peace Doves at St. Canice’s Cathedral

ONE of Kilkenny’s oldest medieval buildings, the 13th-century St Canice’s Cathedral, is inviting visitors to take part in a special community art installation this summer.

Participants are invited to write or draw a personal message of hope onto a handcrafted paper dove and become part of a much larger shared experience. These messages will form part of a spectacular art installation featuring over 10,000 handwritten Peace Doves carrying messages of hope and unity, which will transform the 800-year-old interior of St Canice’s Cathedral into a breathtaking community art installation.

Peace Doves is the vision of internationally renowned British sculptor Peter Walker, whose work is well-known across the UK and Europe. With Peace Doves, he brings this powerful artwork to Ireland for the very first time.

Together, visitors and local people will help create a stunning artwork of suspended doves cascading above the cathedral crossing, carrying the hope and creativity of the community.

For eight weeks from September 14th, visitors will enjoy 360-degree views of the dove installation, accompanied by original music composed by David Harper. St Canice’s Cathedral will host a series of evening concerts to accompany the Peace Dove artwork.
