This autumn Butler Gallery are delighted to present our ‘Spoken Word Series’ featuring an exciting line-up of spoken word performances. Join us at 6.45pm on Thursday 17th October at Butler Gallery for performances by Orla Mackey and Noel Howley.

Orla Mackey is a writer and teacher based in Kilkenny. She studied English Literature in Trinity College, Dublin. She was longlisted for the Exeter Novel Prize and was a winner of the Irish Writers Centre Novel Fair. Her debut novel, Mouthing was published by Penguin U.K and released in 2024.
Noel Howley is originally from south Kilkenny and now lives in Waterford. He has had poems published in various journals including Poetry Ireland Review, The Honest Ulsterman, Kilkenny Broadsheet, Cork Literary Review, Revival Literary Journal and The Waxed Lemon. He was runner-up in the Cork Literary Review Poetry Manuscript Competition and was shortlisted for Listowel Writer’s Week Poetry Collection Competition and Commended in the Patrick Kavanagh Poetry Prize. In 2019 he won the Waterford Poetry Prize. He has read at Cúirt, The Cork Internation Poetry Festival and the Ulster Museum. He is currently pursuing a Masters in Poetry at The Seamus Heaney Centre, Queen’s University Belfast. In his spare time, he organises poetry readings in Waterford city as part of the SpeakEasy group.
