The Winter Solstice celebration at the Coshel in Knockroe will take place this Sunday, the 21st. Visitors can experience the dawn alignment at 8:40am and the sunset alignment at 3:40pm, weather permitting. Stewarded parking will be available nearby, and attendees are encouraged to allow an additional twenty minutes for arrival. The event will be attended by Dr. Muiris O’Sullivan who excavated the site and the Druids.

Guided tours highlighting the rich history and heritage of the Lingaun Valley will also be offered. These will include a trip along the Windgap Village Loop, departing from the Community Centre in Windgap at 11:00am, and a tour of the Slatequarries from the Ormond Quarry at 1:45pm.
Fógra: As the Solstice falls on a Sunday this year, the usual refreshment stops—including the Lakeside Tea Rooms in Windgap, the Auld Mill Bakery in Grangemockler, and Owning House—will not be open.

Hot takeaway beverages will be available from Walsh’s Shop in Windgap, Pete’s Shop in Kilmoganny until 1pm, and outlets in Callan, Carrick-on-Suir, and Piltown. Evening meals may be booked in advance at the Dizzy Goat Restaurant in Kilkieran.The Solstice alignments at Knockroe can also be viewed on the days immediately before and after the 21st of December.
