Alice Kyteler Festival

The picturesque city of Kilkenny, Ireland, will host the Alice Kettler Festival from November 1–3, 2024, at famous historical sites including Kilkenny Castle, Kyteler’s Inn, and St. Canice’s Cathedral. The festival, organised by the Kilkenny Archaeological Society in partnership with Local Heritage, celebrates and explores the fascinating history of Lady Alice Kyteler, a figure shrouded in mystery and folklore.

In the 14th century, wealthy widow and moneylender Lady Alice Kyteler became the first woman in Ireland to be accused of witchcraft. Her story is remarkable not only for the crimes she was accused of, but also for her dramatic escape from persecution, leaving behind a legacy that includes the tragic fate of her maid, Petronella de Meath
