Wild Wednesdays at the National Reptile Zoo

The National Reptile Zoo

A weekly night-time safari from September to November 2024, offering guided tours that illuminate the nocturnal lives of reptiles, highlight conservation stories, and create a unique midweek attraction in Kilkenny. This event aims to boost the city’s night-time economy, attracting locals and tourists with an engaging, and environment centred experience!

Join us for a winter’s evening guided tour of the zoo, where we’ll see what our reptile, amphibian and invertebrate friends get up to when the lights go out…

Kilkenny Animated 2024

This year’s Kilkenny Animated Festival will take place in Kilkenny City from October 4th – 6th 2024, and will feature a stellar lineup including Disney legend, Glen Keane.

Hosted by five-time Oscar-nominated animation studio, Cartoon Saloon – whose 25th anniversary celebrations will form part of this year’s programme – BAFTA-winning Lighthouse Studios, and Schweppe Curtis Nunn Events, Kilkenny Animated is a celebration of the creativity and craft of animation, set against the backdrop of medieval Kilkenny in the heart of Ireland’s Ancient East.

With two multi-award winning animation studios in Kilkenny, it's no wonder that the city is brimming with talented artists.

The Art Market in Kyteler's Inn during Kilkenny Animated is run by a collective of local art creators, illustrators, animators, comic artists, many of whom have worked on hits such as Rick and Morty, Wolfwalkers, The Cuphead Show! and My Father's Dragon.

It will be a showcase of the glorious creative works produced by Kilkenny-based artists - and it's your chance to own some of their original pieces.

Puffin Rock and the New Friends is the latest feature from Cartoon Saloon, who celebrate their 25th anniversary in 2024.

Based on the award-winning TV series, Puffin Rock and the New Friends sees our family favourites, Oona, Baba, May and Mossy joined by a new cast of characters, as Isabelle, Phoenix and Marvin arrive on the island.

It’s an action-packed story which celebrates our magnificent natural environment, and features themes of belonging, courage and friendship.

Kilkenny Animated is delighted to present The Breadwinner from Cartoon Saloon.

Based on the best-selling children’s novel by Deborah Ellis, The Breadwinner tells the story of 11 year old Parvana who gives up her identity to provide for her family and try to save her father’s life.

Parvana’s father Nurullah had told stories about history and imagination to Parvana as she helped him in the marketplace of Taliban controlled Kabul in the year 2001.

Iconic and game-changing, Akira is the definitive anime masterpiece! Katsuhiro Otomo’s landmark cyberpunk classic obliterated the boundaries of Japanese animation and forced the world to look into the future. Akira’s arrival shattered traditional thinking, creating space for movies like The Matrix to be dreamed into brutal reality.

Neo-Tokyo, 2019. The city is being rebuilt post World War III when two high school drop outs, Kaneda and Tetsuo stumble across a secret government project to develop a new weapon – telekinetic humans. After Tetsuo is captured by the military and experimented on, he gains psychic abilities and learns about the existence of the project’s most powerful subject, Akira. Both dangerous and destructive, Kaneda must take it upon himself to stop both Tetsuo and Akira before things get out of control and the city is destroyed once again.
