Exhibition: Honeymoon by Ciara Roche

Butler Gallery is very pleased to present an exhibition of new paintings by Wexford-born artist Ciara Roche. This is the artist’s first large-scale museum exhibition in Ireland.

This suite of paintings on canvas and paper refer to domestic scenes and public places with source imagery derived from the artist’s own photography, film stills and found imagery. Roche continues to explore representational image-making using wet and quickly applied oil paint to create a sense of luminosity and movement on the surface. The paintings explore places and themes that range from exclusive anonymous hotels to empty 24-hour cafés.

Mrs Robinson tells the story of how young Mary Bourke from Ballina, County Mayo became Ireland’s first female President in 1990. A reforming constitutional lawyer and senator in her early career, Mary held the presidency for seven eventful years, championing women’s rights in Ireland and laying the foundations for the Irish Peace Process.

Later, she became UN High Commissioner and is celebrated for fearlessly challenging perpetrators of human rights abuses all over the world. To this day, she exerts power and leadership as the Chair of The Elders: the independent group of global leaders who work for peace, justice and human rights. As an influential global voice, Mary Robinson is also spearheading the women-led climate justice campaign Project Dandelion.

Women In Technical Theatre

Women in Technical Theatre is a collaboration between The Lir National Academy of Dramatic Art at Trinity College Dublin and the Abbey Theatre which aims to introduce young women to careers in lighting, sound, and stage management.

The purpose of the roadshow is to engage female pupils from secondary level schools throughout Ireland by presenting and facilitating workshops geared towards increasing awareness of technical theatre, stage management and the importance that these departments play in the professional creation of a live performance.

Pillow Queens

Following the release of the brand new album ‘Name Your Sorrow’, Pillow Queens announces they will embark on an Irish National Tour in 2024.

After forming in 2016, the band released a series of singles, honing their craft and working towards their first album, In Waiting (2020). Along the way there have been acclaim from UK and American press, many sold-out gigs and an appearance on James Corden’s US TV show. After signing with Canada’s Royal Mountain Records, they released a follow-up album, Leave the Light On in 2022, touring the UK, US and Europe extensively, including shows at Austin’s SXSW and supporting Phoebe Bridgers in Glasgow.

MPI Artists Presents: Jenny Greene

Jenny Greene has been at the forefront of the Irish Dance music scene for almost 20 years. Starting out at the age of 17 as a dance music columnist, radio presenter, and DJ.

At the age of 21, she earned herself a spot in the Guinness Book Of Records breaking the record for the World’s Longest DJ set. Her Saturday night dance show ‘Electric Disco’ on RTÉ 2FM has been a mainstay for Irish Clubbers for well over a decade, leading to an album release back in 2009.

Jenny regularly performs to sell-out crowds at both arenas and festivals with the RTÉ Concert Orchestra. Her DJ sets and style have evolved over the years incorporating house, melodic techno, electronica and classics.

Set in the late 90s, Ellen and her new husband Van decide to take Ellen’s older sister Inger on a bus trip to Paris where Inger once lived. Inger is schizophrenic, and lives in a care home coddled by her overprotective mother. Ellen sees their holiday as an opportunity to reconnect, and to find out if Inger might be able to live more independently. Inger herself has a hidden agenda for the trip – hoping to track down a lost love.

Rose is based on director Niels Arden Oplev’s own family history and is full of feeling. Sofie Gråbøl’s performance is the film’s highlight. She inhabits Inger, bringing her to life and presenting all her complications, impulses and anxiety with grace.

Muireann Bradley

Muireann Bradley is a 17 year old folk and blues guitarist and singer from Ballybofey in County Donegal. She specializes in performing acoustic fingerpicking country, piedmont, and ragtime blues styles from the 1920s, 30s and 40s as well as later folk, country and Americana.

Her influences include Blind Blake, Rev Gary Davis, Memphis Minnie, Elizabeth Cotten, Mississippi John Hurt, Stefan Grossman, Ari Eisinger, John Fahey and Roy Bookbinder.

Her father started teaching her guitar when she was nine and then in 2020, she received an offer from Josh Rosenthal of Tompkins Square Records to record an album after he saw her on youtube. In December 2023 this album “I kept these old Blues” was released to rave reviews.

Every year, Bo Peep, Baa-Baa and their great friend Dinda, take the sheep to the Christmas Fair to be shorn – but the beautiful Queen of Hearts has lost her phone and has turned up to open the Fair too soon. Things could be sorted...but Horror! – Bo Peep’s sheep are missing and soon - so is Baa-Baa! Just as a very strange witchy person arrives, who wants to win Master Chef with her recipe for roast mutton instead of turkey for Christmas Dinner can the boys and girls help find Baa-Baa and the sheep and ensure that Santa gets to stay warm and bring Christmas to the whole world.

Christmas Jumper Junior Parkrun

Kilkenny countryside park junior Parkrun is a free, fun, and friendly weekly 2k event for juniors (4 to 14 year olds). It is held every Sunday at 9:30 am.It takes place at Kilkenny Countryside Park, Dunmore, Co. Kilkenny. It is free but please register beforehand. Only register once with Parkrun and print off and bring your barcode. On Sunday 22nd of December, there is a special fun junior Parkrun with a Christmas jumper fancy dress theme. Kilkenny Roots Festival 2025

Since 1998, Kilkenny Roots Festival has attracted some of the finest names in the Americana/Roots canon, including Calexico, Giant Sand, Drive-By Truckers, Jason Isbell, Alejandro Escovedo, Guy Clark, Chuck Prophet, Ray LaMontagne, Richmond Fontaine, Rodney Crowell, Phosphorescent, Sturgill Simpson and Alabama Shakes.
