Nestled in the heart of the scenic Irish countryside, County Kilkenny is a golfer’s paradise. With its lush green landscapes, rolling hills and historic charm, it’s no wonder that this county boasts some of the best golf courses in Ireland. Whether you’re a seasoned golfer or just looking for a leisurely round surrounded by nature’s beauty, County Kilkenny has something to suit all golfers.

Castlecomer Golf Club

Castlecomer Golf Club is situated just 15 minutes from Kilkenny City. The course is set in a 200-year-old forest of elevated beauty with magnificent views of the surrounding countryside, framed by the canopy of the woodland. Castlecomer’s course provides a great test of golf combined with breathtaking views of the local terrain. Don’t miss an opportunity to play this fantastic 18-hole golf course designed by Pat Ruddy.

Gowran Park

Although you may associate it as a key location for race meetings in the south east, Gowran Park also boasts a magnificent golf course. In 2001, this unique 18-hole golf course was developed to complement its renowned race meetings. The course meanders in and around 130 acres with 5 holes within the racecourse boundary and the remainder in the mature woodland and lake settings of the Annaly Estate. With the magnificent backdrop of the Blackstairs Mountains this par 71, 18 hole golf course provides an excellent test for the low handicap golfer whilst also being very enjoyable for the middle to high handicappers.

Kilkenny Golf Club

Great news, the 18-hole championship parkland course at Kilkenny Golf Club is playable year round due to its sand-based greens. The course is set on 120 acres of parkland and measures 5,933 metres with a par of 71. The course is mostly flat terrain with an abundance of trees. Keep an eye out for the ancient fulacht fiadh on the 10th hole! After a game visitors will find the clubhouse, like the city – very friendly where they can relax in a convivial atmosphere and partake of the bar and catering facilities available throughout the day.

Mount Juliet Estate

One of Kilkenny’s finest golf courses is located on the grounds of Mount Juliet Estate. The Jack Nicklaus signature designed parkland course is set across 180 acres of rolling countryside. It is ranked among the world’s finest parkland courses and has played host to numerous unforgettable tournaments such as the 2021 Dubai Duty-Free Irish Open. Improve your game by practicing at The Academy with tools such as Toptracer, the fitting studio and lessons from the experts.

Newpark Golf Driving Range

Hone your skills at the Newpark Golf Driving Range. With enclosed bays, a putting green and a pitching area, it is the ideal location to practice your putting technique. If you would like some tips from golfing pros, they are on hand to provide lessons.

Pococke Golf Centre

Pococke Golf Centre is home to an 18-hole course consisting of 7 par 4s and 11 par 3s. It is a challenging course for all levels of golfers with some of the shortest holes the trickiest with bunkers and water around the greens. Membership isn’t required to discover this fabulous course, so be sure to add it to your list. Golf isn’t your thing? No problem, try your hand – or foot – at footgolf! It is a combination of football and golf played with a soccer ball. Similar to golf in layout, there are 18 individual holes and the aim is to get the ball into the hole in as few shots as possible. It’s great fun for families, groups of friends or a competitive pair!
