Perfect Fairways – Golf in Kilkenny

Gowran Park Golf

'Golf is a compromise between what your ego wants you to do, what experience tells you to do, and what your nerves let you do' - Bruce Crampton. Challenge your golfing skills on one of Kilkenny's rich landscape courses, a perfect natural environment for parklands golf. You won't be disappointed!

Jack Nicklaus Course at Mount Juliet

This magnificent 1,500 acre Georgian Estate was built by the Earl of Carrick and elegantly overlooks the River Nore in Thomastown, South Kilkenny. Originally owned by Major McCalmont, it was developed as a  luxury hotel with a Jack Nicklaus designed golf course. The estate boasts a marvellous Manor house, Michelin starred restaurant The Lady Helen, and some of the best landscapes and gardens in Ireland. This signature course is  set in a Downton-esque world of its own.

Mount Juliet established itself  internationally as a premier golf venue when the Estate played host to legends Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, Sergio Garcia and Pádraig Harrington for the WGC American Express Golf Championship in September 2002 and again in 2004.who declared the course as’ captivating and memorable, presenting ‘perfect fairways’ and the ‘best greens we’ve putted on all year’ . In a rich tribute, Mount Juliet was recently voted Ireland’s Best Parkland Golf Course by the Golfers Guide to Ireland.

Gowran Park - a welcoming challenge

If you are looking for a enjoyable day on the course with an excellent “19th hole” Gowran Park is a must. In 2001, Gowran Park Kilkenny developed a unique 18 hole golf course designed by renowned architect Jeff Howes. The course meanders in and around the 130 acre Annaly estate with five holes within the racecourse. With the magnificent backdrop of the Blackstairs Mountains this par 71, 18 hole golf course provides an excellent test for the low handicap golfer whilst also being very enjoyable for the middle to high handicappers. A par on the index 1 par four 4th hole with it’s tight fairway and tricky green protected by water will live long in the memory.

Gowran Park is particularly popular with golf societies many of whom come on a one day visit but many decide to stay over in Kilkenny city which is only 15 minutes from the course. Visitors are welcome everyday except on race days. However, on our four evening meetings it is possible to enjoy golf in the morning followed by our great race day experience in the evening time. Green fees can be booked online using the link below or by phone.

Castlecomer Golf Club

Castlecomer Golf Club is situated just 15 minutes from Kilkenny City. The course is set in a 200 year old forest of elevated beauty, with magnificent views of the surrounding countryside, framed by the canopy of the woodland.

Castlecomer’s course provides a great test of golfing ability combined with breath taking views of the local terrain. This course design was completed in 2003 by the great course designer Pat Ruddy who has delivered a truly uniquely challenging course.

Each hole retains the character and make up as originally conceived by  Pat Ruddy with a new pathway through the old section of woodland that links hole 7 (formerly 12) with hole 8 (formerly 11). The final result adds a new dimension to the beauty of the course.
