Ireland’s Medieval Mile stretches from the iconic Castle to St. Canice's Cathedral, with similarly notable historic gems along its path. Furthermore it has become one of our biggest attractions. Kilkenny’s origins predate existing medieval landmarks.

Saint Canice in fact gives Kilkenny its name, subsequently founding a monastic settlement in the 6th century. The 9th century round tower beside the wonderful stone cathedral of St. Canice’s, for example is a remaining monastic landmark. Built in the 13th century , this is evidently a showcase to skilled ornate stonemasonry skills.
