Mount Juliet Hero Image

Golfers all over the country have been given the green light to take to the course from April 26th, so it's no surprise that the sport lovers all over the country are busy dusting down their clubs and practising their 'garden' swing in preparation for the big day. Here we have lined up Kilkenny's Top 3 courses that are 'must plays' this Summer!

Golf At Mount Juliet

Mount Juliet Estate Golf Club

Mount Juliet, unsurprisingly, takes our top spot as the number 1 golf course you MUST play in Kilkenny this summer. The club has been host to some of the biggest names in the golfing world including Tiger Woods, Sergio Garcia, Christy O’Connor and the course designer Jack Nicklaus. Opening in 1991, Mount Juliet has held the WGC American Express Golf Championship in both 2002 and 2004, as well as hosting the Irish Open three times and is again to host the 2021 Dubai Duty Free Irish Open. The event, which takes place from July 1st until July 4th, 2021, returns to Mount Juliet Estate in a historic year for the championship golf course, as it will be celebrating its 30th anniversary.

Mount Juliet is known for its immaculate and contoured fairways and greens. A true parkland course with eight holes playing over water, playing Mount Juliet is an opportunity you can’t miss in Kilkenny this summer.

Kilkenny Golf Club (1)

Kilkenny Golf Club

Coming in at our number 2 spot for golf courses you MUST play this summer in Kilkenny, is Kilkenny Golf Club. Measuring 6,500 yards in length, this par 71 is one of the oldest golf clubs in Ireland. Founded in 1891, five years before the Golf Union of Ireland (GUI) was set up, this is a classic parkland in nature.

Kilkenny Golf Club is always kept in excellent condition with fast and true rolling greens. While it’s known as a relatively short golf course, the difficulty is made up for with unsuspecting doglegs and sloping greens. Kilkenny Golf Club is renowned for welcoming non members and golfers of any standard, so we highly recommend playing this course if you’re in Kilkenny

Gowran Park

Gowran Park Golf Club

The Irish are well known for loving both a round of golf and a day at the races, so at Gowran Park, you’ll find both! This golf course has a stunning backdrop of the racecourse and even cuts through it on five holes. The other 13 holes are beautifully tree-lined, providing not much room for error off the tee. Gowran Park Golf Club is a very recent development and only opened in 2001. However, it has already gained a great reputation as a scenic parkland course with intriguingly different views. We highly recommend checking it out!

Castlecomer Golf Hole10

Castlecomer Golf Club

Castlecomer Golf Club is regarded as one of Kilkenny’s biggest hidden gems. Members and local golfers would describe the course as a beautiful rolling parkland with mature trees lining the fairways. Measuring 6,563 yards in length, each hole on the Castlecomer golf course throws a different challenge and you and it won’t take long before you’ve used every club in your bag there. The club does a great job in constantly refurbishing and freshening up the course, so if you want your golf senses reawakened, Castlecomer Golf Club is a MUST play this summer in Kilkenny!
