Originally built by Richard Rothe of the renowned Rothe merchant family of Kilkenny, the house was used as a ‘Safe House’ during the War of Independence with Éamon de Valera staying here during this time. Today, the property has been lovingly restored and thoughtfully modernised, combining period elegance with luxurious modern comforts.
The Space
Mountrothe House comfortably accommodates up to 16 guests across seven spacious en-suite bedrooms, each individually styled with character and warmth. Three of the bedrooms are located in the atmospheric basement level, featuring original vaulted ceilings and preserved architectural details that reflect the home’s rich history. Guests can enjoy generous living spaces designed for both relaxation and entertaining, including:
