Since 2012 Graiguenamanagh Bike Hire has been operating a bicycle rental service for all ages that is swiftly becoming one of the most popular activity outings for the southeast of Ireland. The reason is pretty simple, the Barrow river towpath makes an excellent cycling greenway that gives visitors miles of safe, traffic free adventure in beautiful countryside. As the towpath follows the river downstream to St. Mullins and stretches upriver as far as the grand canal in County Kildare you simply have miles and miles of countryside to explore.
Equestrian at Mount Juliet
Set in the surrounds of the Mount Juliet Estate, the wonderful Mount Juliet Equestrian Centre is one of the most impressive centres in the country with two arenas, an American barn, and show jumps. From trekking and trail-riding excursions, to exhilarating cross-country course and miles of bridal-ways sprawl out into the surrounding pastures, parkland and pastures both within and beyond the estate.
Hawkeye Falconry at Lyrath Estate
Discover the ancient art of falconry with your very own private Falconry Experience will begin with an introduction to the Hawk you are about to fly. You will set off on a walk as your hawk follows you, watching your every move. Your falconer will teach you how to recall the hawk from the tree tops to your gloved hand and send him back to the trees again.
During the walk, your falconer will work with you to ensure you get some amazing photo and video opportunities as you call the hawk several times to your gloved hand. To finish up your falconry experience you will be introduced to one or possibly two of their owls.
Ireland's Medieval Mile
Ireland’s Medieval Mile stretches from the iconic Castle to St. Canice’s Cathedral, with similarly notable historic gems along its path. It has become one of Kilkenny’s biggest attractions in recent years. Well preserved examples of Ireland’s past for example include a 16th century Inn, 13th century Dominican Abbey and the only complete early 17th-century merchant’s townhouse, similarly show stopping.
Kilkenny Castle is one of Ireland’s most iconic and historic sites, year-round tours are available, and the parkland of the castle has 50 acres to explore. Just a stone’s throw away is the Kilkenny Design Centre filled with beautiful Kilkenny crafts.
From the magnificent Castle to the enchanting Rothe Gardens to St. Canice’s Round Tower which at 30m is one of only three climbable towers in Ireland (currently closed due to COVID restrictions, Cathedral remains open) and the Medieval Mile Museum which was formerly the 13th century St Mary’s Church.
