Bennettsbridge

A feast for lovers of craft

Bennettsbridge is a picturesque village located along the River Nore just ten minutes drive from Kilkenny city.

This truly creative hotspot has attracted artisan craft masters including Nicholas Mosse Pottery and Rory Leadbetter of Jerpoint Glass. Based nearby is Larry Kinsella who crafts beautiful vibrantly coloured candles at Moth to a Flame.

If you enjoy a good walk, there is arguably no finer walk than ‘O’Gorman’s Loop’. Alternatively stroll up the ‘Annamult Road’ for a kilometre until you arrive at Nore Valley Park’s Open Farm where the little ones can get up close and personal with the newborns, bottle feeding is a pure delight. Bring a picnic or try some sumptuous home bakes or maybe take a  trailer rides, crazy golf, maze and go-karts.

On the way you will pass ‘Maiden Hall’ family seat of renowned essayist Hubert Butler and now home to Suzanna Crampton, photographer,  farmer of Zwartbles sheep and author of runaway success ‘Bodacious, Cat Shepherd’. Grab a good coffee in the village and engage with the locals for a real rural experience.

Nicholas Mosse Pottery was established by Nicholas Mosse in 1976 after periods of training in England and Japan. His mission was to produce beautiful, functional pottery in the style of Irish Spongeware. Irish spongeware was the traditional pottery of Ireland used in the 18th Century. It was mainly made in simple honest shapes with a decoration applied with a cut sponge.

From their pottery mill in Kilkenny the team at Nicholas Mosse create a range of beautiful pottery for all occasions. Each of the pieces are made by hand and crafted with the greatest care for detail. Inspired by the rural surroundings, the patterns capture the charm of Irish country-living and bring it straight to your home. Visit their Irish Country Shop and Cafe to experience how they make their pottery or buy their best selling pieces and patterns online.

The Little Mill is owned and managed by the Mosse Family. Stretching back seven generations, the family have been milling on the banks of the River Nore in Co. Kilkenny. When you have been handling, milling and selecting wheat for that long, you’re not only knowledgeable but passionate about it, and that passion is evident not only in their milling but when creating their baking mixes. We produce our Stoneground Wholemeals at the Little Mill in Bennettsbridge. The mill has a long history and is the only commercial mill of its kind still in operation.
